Backbone Rock & Falls

We lucked out with some warm-ish, sunny weather this weekend so we decided to go on a family adventure day on Saturday! We didn’t want to drive too far, or pick too long of a hike since the girls haven’t done much lately, so we decided to head to Damascus. Backbone Rock & Falls is only a few miles outside of Damascus, and we figured we could go to our favorite lunch spot afterwards.

The girls enjoyed the short (but steep!) climb up to the top of Backbone Rock, as well as clambering over some rocks along the way. We then made our way back down all the stairs and across the road for the short hike to the falls.

Quite a few more stairs up and down, and part of what’s cool about this water fall is that you walk over the top of the falls, and then down some steps to the bottom of the falls! The girls enjoyed climbing around below the falls for awhile, and then it was a short trip down the trail and another flight of stairs to come back out on the road a short walk from the car. We then drove into Damascus to find that our favorite lunch spot (Mojos) was closed! We settled for Wicked Chicken instead, and ended up being really impressed with the food there. Hubs and I had eaten there before and remembered it being good, but not THAT good. We all loved our entrees this time and now will be happy to go back again!

After lunch we decided we just weren’t ready to end the adventure and go back indoors so we stopped in downtown Abingdon and went for a 2 mile walk around town.
