I graduated from physical therapy on Wednesday, hooray! I celebrated by running my first track workout in over a month… 2 x 1600m. The plan was actually to run 3 x 1600, but my lungs were struggling too hard in the second one so I decided to play it smart and quit while I was ahead. I ran the intervals in 6:19 & 6:17, which is only a few seconds off the last time I did this workout on 4/14. I had really missed feeling the speed of track workouts and am glad to be getting back to it!

On Thursday I went to WV to visit my horse and get a hair cut + dye my ends purple, just for fun. I rode my horse for the first time in over a year, and it was so much fun! I had been worried to ride because my horse is so old (35ish), but she has been doing really well this summer and I’ve been told that it would actually be good for her to get some exercise to keep up her muscle. So I took her for a walk around the field, and she did great! She even wanted to gallop up the hills, to which I told her… “you do you!” If she feels good enough to want to gallop, I’m not going to stand in her way. Now I’m thinking I need to make time to visit her and ride more often so we can have more fun…

Shortly after returning home on Friday I headed back out the door to bike with my athlete Lindsey. We enjoyed a leisurely 15 mile ride to town and back. Several of my athletes have gotten into biking recently, and while running will always be my favorite, I appreciate the benefits of cross-training and I’m happy to build biking into their schedules along with the running! I am also trying to make myself add more biking into my own schedule. As much as I love the sound of 30+ mile weeks, I’m pretty sure my body stays healthier with 20-25 mile weeks, so I’m going to try to stop pushing for the extra miles and convince myself to bike 1-2 times per week alongside my 20-25 running miles.

On Saturday I had a great run with some friends in the morning (hello 7:40 avg for 6 miles!). I was definitely working for that pace, but it wasn’t more than I could handle, and it felt good to push myself and keep up with my friends.

Around lunchtime, hubs and I met up with some friends and headed to Hungry Mother State Park for some lake fun. Some of us rented kayaks, and some rented stand up paddle boards. I opted for a stand-up paddle board (hubs rented a kayak) and we paddled around for an hour. It was my second time paddle boarding, and just as much fun as the first time. I thought I would be sore the next day, but I actually wasn’t!
